Behind the Quote: What Happens Between RFQ Submission and Final Pricing

Written by ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions | 11/6/26, 7:27 PM

At ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, we quote fast so that you can keep your project moving. When we have everything we need, we average a 9-hour response time and most RFQs are quoted in 24 hours or less. But we know that for some buyers, submitting an RFQ may feel like a mysterious process that ends with unpredictable numbers.

Behind the scenes, a fast, accurate quote is a high-speed balancing act of automation and human expertise. Here’s what happens on our end between the moment you click “submit” and the moment you receive your price.

Reviewing Your Requirements and Planning Production

Our first step is to review your drawings and models to understand what it will take to make your parts. That includes evaluating manufacturability and developing a realistic plan for production.

Cutting-edge manufacturing technology is central to our quoting process, but quoting across all our precision manufacturing services requires blending technology with the expertise of our estimators.

When we analyze models and drawings, our estimators often take our quoting software’s estimate, adjust it based on their own analysis, and then consult directly with shop-floor managers or team members. Those conversations help us be sure that the work will actually get done in a way that aligns with our estimate.

Accounting for Materials and Outside Processing

We always try to prevent material pricing and outside processing from delaying a quote. A good estimator balances the need for perfect third-party pricing with your need for speed.

To keep the process moving, we draw on previous quotes and recent historical pricing where appropriate. Even so, pricing still requires judgment. Costs can change, and some requirements call for current supplier input.

Our estimators always try to determine whether we truly need more information before getting your quote back to you. Every quote clearly states its assumptions, including how long material pricing is valid.

Checking the Price Against Experience

Before we send you a quote, we always ask ourselves an important question: does this number actually make sense for the work involved?

In part, that is simply a gut check for a truly experienced estimator. We’ve typically done similar parts many times before, so we can often recognize when a price deserves another look. But we also have quoting software as a backstop, and frequent discussions with our network of manufacturing contacts often help provide other ways to check our assumptions.

The goal is a competitive price that supports reliable production. A quote that is too high can strain your budget, but a quote that is unrealistically low will create problems for both sides over time. We always want to find a price we can stand behind.
