New equipment is only worth the investment if it creates real value for customers. Plenty of shops buy technology for show. At ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, we adopt it when it makes parts more consistent, shortens lead times, or removes the administrative errors that cause delays.
Here is where manufacturing technology is already working on our floor and in our offices, and where we see the biggest opportunities next:
Collaborative welding robots (cobots) handle repetitive welds so our certified welders can focus on complex work.
Vision-guided robotics could extend automation to larger weldments.
AI agents check purchase orders against quotes and drawings, so errors are caught before production starts.
Our collaborative welding robots, or cobots, work alongside our certified welders as part of our rapid welding services. For the right parts, they add speed and repeatability without taking skilled people out of the process.
We typically use our cobots for components that fit on their 4x4-foot table. Programming is straightforward: the operator guides the welding head through the required path, and the cobot repeats it. Once the program and fixtures are ready, the system welds these parts quickly and consistently, order after order.
Cobots do not replace the judgment of an experienced welder. They give us another production option. The cobot takes on repetitive welds, and our welders spend their time on the work that needs their skill. For customers, that means more welding capacity, more consistent results on repeat parts, and fewer bottlenecks.
ReNEW is working with a new technology partner to explore the next generation of robotic welding. Traditional industrial robots required an operator to program, or “teach,” every movement with a pendant. Cobots simplify that by letting the operator move the welding head by hand to show it where to go.
The newer system could go a step further by adding vision. It starts with the part’s 3D model, scans the physical assembly in front of it, compares the scan with the model, and generates a welding path based on the actual component, not an idealized one.
If it performs as we expect, this approach could make robotic welding practical for larger weldments that are not good candidates for our cobots today. Combined with our certified welders and existing automation, it would let us apply that efficiency to a broader range of customer projects.
Some of the most valuable automation is work customers never see. Our manufacturing software already includes AI-supported capabilities for tasks like toolpath development and fixture design. We have also developed internal AI agents for order entry across our ERP systems.
These agents compare each purchase order against the quoted pricing, quantities, drawings, and revision levels. Automating those checks frees our team to spend more time on the tougher questions our customers bring us.
Order entry may happen behind the scenes, but it directly affects your experience. Faster, more consistent processing prevents the delays that come from an incorrect quantity or a missed drawing revision, the kind of small mistake that can cost days.
Some of these processes would not have been realistic even a year ago, and the technology is still moving quickly. ReNEW is actively evaluating new opportunities in robotics, automation, and manufacturing software.
We apply one test to every investment: does it improve efficiency, capacity, or quality in a way our customers will feel? If it does, we adopt it. If it doesn’t, we pass.
