Smarter Build-to-Print Manufacturing for Successful Product Launches

build-to-print

Product launches often begin in one of two ways: as a new prototype that still needs refining, or as a near-production part that a business has now decided to outsource. At ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, we help turn both types of projects into reliable production programs through build-to-print manufacturing, DFM insight, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) support when necessary, and multi-site capacity.

What Does Smarter “Build-to-Print” Manufacturing Mean?

In essence, build-to-print manufacturing means the customer owns the design, and our role is to manufacture it to print and meet the required specifications. In some situations, “build-to-print” can overlap with the term “contract manufacturing,” and the idea is essentially the same: ReNEW manufactures customer-designed parts to the required print and specifications.

But with ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, the process is not purely transactional. We can provide practical feedback during the quoting process to help make sure your part has a design that’s optimized for efficient manufacturing and, ultimately, cost savings.

We collaborate with customers on design for manufacturing (DFM) guidance when we see opportunities to reduce cost with straightforward changes. These can include tolerance review, a small design change, or a material discussion. The customer remains in control of the design, but we go beyond the basics when we’re taking on your build-to-print parts.

Two Common Paths to Product Launches

When a customer intends to launch a product with us, there are two common starting points:

A new prototype: We’re happy to help customers who are still proving designs, and we understand the timeline may change several times before it reaches production. As a good manufacturing partner, we can help you clarify your requirements and determine which decisions could affect future cost and lead time.

Outsourcing existing production: In these cases, customers may already know the part works, but they need a supplier that can support the demand they anticipate. If PPAP is required, we can handle it; the process includes proving that the part can be manufactured correctly, submitting the necessary documentation, and moving forward once approval is complete. From there, the customer can provide a forecast and begin ramping into repeat production.

Challenges During Launch

Product launch challenges often appear early in the process. Drawings may be incomplete, for instance, or tolerances may be unclear. A common issue we encounter is aggressive timelines while uncertainty remains around certain product decisions.

We can help you address these issues properly so that they do not disrupt your path to launch. We’ll communicate with your stakeholders as necessary to resolve questions before they affect your cost or lead time.

The Expertise to Launch Products

ReNEW’s multi-location manufacturing network gives customers access to a range of capabilities. Across our network, we can support:

  • Precision CNC machining
  • EDM
  • Sheet metal fabrication, including forming and bending
  • Welding
  • Laser-cutting
  • Painting and finishing
  • Subassemblies

That versatility is important in a product launch. Customers can keep more steps with one supplier, and our capacity lets you seamlessly grow with us. If demand increases, our network helps provide flexibility and redundancy for long-term success.

Communication Is the Difference

A successful product launch depends on transparency from both sides. Customers need to share as much information as they can, including accurate prints, specifications, timelines, forecasts, and design updates. Manufacturers need to communicate what they can realistically do and how customers can set themselves up for success.

At ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, we have supported countless launches and production transitions. Whether you are developing a prototype or outsourcing an existing production part, our goal is to help you move from print to production with a clear, dependable process.
